So having this game to fulfill that need to face an armada of unknown horrors, is just perfect. To the point where there are really only a handful of outstandingly good entries, at least in the shooter category. The Lovecraftian genre, in the world of gaming, is surprisingly lacking. Its feel is between classic build engine FPS, and the modern "old school throwback," that many other developers have tried, and failed, to create to such a level that Byte Barrel has achieved here, and with such incredible replayability involved too. Overall, FMF is well optimized, and has superb gameplay, complimented with the awesomely gruesome art style and character design. This is a $60+ experience, sold as a $20 package, and the $10 for the soundtrack will become an essential purchase after hearing the music in game. I have acquired every achievement, have completed runs with both characters with completely different loadouts, have found every secret and story memento, have gone all out in endless mode, and am currently starting my first NG+ run. I was looking for a short but constantly exciting experience and I think there is one here but it's far too drawn out. This probably comes down to personal preference. I was feeling a lot of repetition and sadly I didn't even make it to the first boss. The game is huge! Could I spend 4 hours playing this? Yes! But it's far bigger and therefore much more drawn out. This may seem silly but it boils down to this. Little notes here and there that you collect but with little meaning so it isn't a driving factor. There isn't much else to say, the story is sparse. Also, the characters are exactly the same but for some special skills. That said, the guns are average and they don't feel very powerful. Being able to shoot something on the enemy to break it which transforms them into something else is cool. The choices there feel like they have some real impact how you play the game. I like how if you go down one path it alters your weapon and removes the other options. The only thing that sticks out is the skill tree. And while it's perfectly fine, it's not great.Įverything is middle of the road. If I was rating this just on the graphics it would be much higher, I think the game is beautiful! However, there's that other part, you know, the gameplay.
